Management of contaminated sites is a major environmental issue. The worldwide growth of environmental awareness has corresponded to new laws and regulations governing all aspects of waste storage, treatment, and disposal. Bans on the disposal of contaminated soil in many landfills have inspired the development of a permanent solution for this problem. With over 30 years experience in the environmental industry, Bennett Environmental Inc. has positioned itself to provide an effective, economical, and permanent solution to the problem of contaminated soil. Bennett has developed the Mark IV Thermal Oxidizer which remediates soil contaminated with chlorinated hydrocarbons with greater than 99.9999% destruction and removal efficiency.
The Récupère Sol Inc. (RSI) Thermal Treatment facility is a fully owned subsidiary of Bennett Environmental Inc. of Oakville, Ontario, Canada. The facility features leading-edge technology and is built around a fourth generation thermal oxidizer designed and manufactured by Bennett, under the leadership of John Bennett, a pollution control expert with over 30 years experience in environmental engineering.
The RSI Thermal Treatment Plant remediates soil contaminated with hydrocarbons and a wide range of chlorinated material, including PCBs, pesticides, Dioxin and Furan. Through RSI's innovative thermal treatment, contaminated soils are heated to extremely high temperatures to separate, remove, and destroy the contaminants. Soil is a precious and limited resource, and should be treated as such. Antiquated methods of dealing with contaminated soil include landfilling and solidification, which are both inherently problematic. Landfilling and solidification are not permanent solutions as they do not address the real problem of contamination, and inevitably these short term solutions will be an issue for future generations to deal with, at a much higher cost than if the problem was addressed initially. Thermal treatment at RSI is essentially the process of recycling soil. The plant has the capacity for high volume processing and can efficiently operate 24 hours per day, seven days a week. It can process on average up to ten tonnes of soil per hour, depending on soil matrix, type of contaminant, concentration and moisture. The plant employs 26 people and is permitted to treat up to 100,000 tonnes annually.
Bennett is committed to helping customers solve the problem of contaminated soil in an effective, economical, and environmentally responsible manner. Thermal treatment is a complete, permanent and safe solution for the treatment of contaminated soils, and is becoming the accepted choice by both government agencies and companies alike. Bennett is able to take on these challenges with a team that has extensive experience in the field, superior equipment, and exceptional financial, technical and operational skills.
